World Cultures Mrs. Kate Bufton

Welcome to World Cultures

and Russian Language!

My name is Kate Bufton, and the 21-22 School Year will be my 5th year teaching World Cultures and Russian Language and Mountain View, and I couldn't be more excited! Last year, I was lucky enough to be a FIRST GRADE teacher and Mountain View!!

I am an Ohio native, and moved to Parker seven years ago. I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of the Arts in Public Relations and Communications with a minor in Russian Language, Literature and History from American University in Washington, D.C. And, then went on to earn my Masters of the Arts in International Diplomacy with an emphasis in International Conflict Management at Norwich University in Vermont. I love spending time with my family (my daughters are alumna of Mountain View!), hiking, backpacking, traveling and exploring.

I love getting the opportunity to teach ALL the amazing students at Mountain View and am very excited about what the 21-22 School Year will hold! I love school and hope to share my passion for inquiry and exploration with you! I can be reached any time at kbufton@dcsdk12.org

We learn the Russian Language!

Studies have shown that not only do children who learn a Second Language have an 'ear' for learning languages in the future, but multiple languages help with increased problem-solving skills, cognitive functioning and processing, and influences achievement in other areas such as literacy and math, which leads to better grades and higher test scores!

Cultures from all over the world!

In World Cultures, students delve into different cultural traditions and celebrations, how school life and home life and differ in different parts of the world, and what makes people around the world the same and what makes us different!

We also take the time to talk about diversity, which (amongst other things) can broaden kids' world view, and increase compassion and empathy.

Geography and Spatial Understanding

In World Cultures, we learn everything from the nuts and bolts of mapmaking, to our place in the world (how we 'fit into geography), as students delve into continents, countries, oceans, landforms, and more!
